Maharashtra loses Vedanta-Foxconn semiconductor plant to Gujarat, blame game begins
A political blame game erupted in Maharashtra after Vedanta and Taiwanese manufacturing giant Foxconn signed an agreement with the Gujarat government to set up a Rs 1.5 lakh crore semiconductor and display fabrication plant. The development is being seen as a big blow to Maharashtra which had been in the advanced stages of negotiations for the said investment. NCP and Shiv Sena have targeted CM Eknath Shinde. State NCP president and former minister Jayant Patil said that with the big-ticket project 'slipping' away from the hands of Maharashtra, the state has lost an investment potential. Former minister and Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray blamed the Shinde government for not doing enough for the proposed project to come up in the state. He said Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government had practically completed the agreement.
