The Supreme Court has allowed the resumption of counselling for NEET-PG and UG courses, for the academic session of 2021-2022, as per the current norms on reservation. The apex court upheld the 27% Other Backward Classes, or “OBC” quota. As for the 10% quota for the Economically Weaker Section, or, EWS, the court said that the criteria laid down in January 2019, will be followed this year too. With more than 3.7 lakh Covid patients needing medical attention, India’s doctors have been overburdened and overworked during the pandemic, with many of them getting infected multiple times themselves. The Supreme Court’s order, will now alleviate their fatigue by allowing more junior doctors to join them.
