It harkens back to Lord Krishna's childhood, where he and his mischievous comrades would assemble human pyramids to liberate the dairy treasures hidden within pots hung from the ceilings of neighboring houses. It's this spirited pilfering of milk products that earned Krishna the endearing moniker 'Makkan chor' or 'Butter Thief.'Last year in August, the government of Eknath Shinde in Maharashtra elevated 'Dahi Handi' to the status of an 'adventure sport,' which has elevated it beyond local neighborhoods and streets.
