Election body bars Imran Khan's 2024 bid over official secrets act violations

Pakistan's election body rejects Imran Khan's 2024 nomination, citing Official Secrets Act violations. Ousted in April 2022, Khan faces legal challenges. The Supreme Court grants bail in the cipher case, but PTI notes his continued incarceration in other graft cases, raising uncertainty about his election participation. The Election Commission receives 28,626 nomination papers for the February 8, 2024, elections, with 459 and 1,365 submitted for reserved seats. The candidate list releases on January 11, allowing withdrawals until January 12, and electoral symbols are allotted on January 13.
