As winter intensifies, Delhi-NCR is grappling with a continuous drop in temperatures, experiencing colder days. Saturday saw the city shrouded in dense fog, with temperatures plunging below 5 degrees Celsius. Notably, Friday marked the first instance of temperatures falling below this threshold in Delhi, even dipping lower than Shimla's 6.8 degrees Celsius. While the air quality in Delhi improved to a reading of 323 on Friday, it still remains in the "very poor" category. The forecast predicts shallow fog and mist in various areas, with the India Meteorological Department stating that Delhi's temperature is likely to hover between 5 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius. As the temperature dips, the air quality across the region has also deteriorated, with many areas recording 'Very Poor' air quality. Additionally, several parts of north and northeast India, including Punjab, experienced fog on Friday, affecting visibility. The India Meteorological Department reported very dense fog in isolated pockets over Punjab and shallow to moderate fog in other states. In Amritsar, dense fog prompted people to use bonfires due to coldwave conditions, reflecting the challenging winter weather gripping the region.
