After almost a decade-long gap, the Chota Amarnath Yatra started in North Kashmir's Bandipora district igniting fervour among pilgrims. The Maha Daneshwar temple, also known as "Chhota Amarnath" lies within the dense forests of Dardpora village of Bandipora district where a naturally formed ice lingam, showered by delicate water droplets from above graces the sacred site. The pilgrimage spans just one day and accommodates a group of seven to eight individuals due to its narrow confines. Traditionally observed on 'Shravani Purnima,' the Yatra not only involves paying homage at the Maha Daneshwar temple near the cave but also navigating the area's challenging terrains. Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmed, flagged off the Yatra 70 devotees who commenced their journey at 5 AM from the temple in Kaloosa village. While expressing gratification for the reawakened Chota Amarnath Yatra, Dr Ahmed told ANI that this one-day religious sojourn resulted from the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders including local residents from Shamthan and PRIs played a pivotal role in ensuring the pilgrimage's smooth execution.
