Upon his arrival at California's Death Valley, 29-year-old Adil Mirza swiftly comprehended that participating in the formidable Badwater Ultramarathon, a 135-mile-long event known as the "world's toughest foot race," would present an entirely distinct challenge. The grueling race entails surmounting 8,000 feet of elevation gain in searing temperatures of up to 53 degrees Celsius. Mirza, hailing from Chembur and engaged in training fellow runners as his profession, ranks among the triumphant three Indians to conquer this arduous competition in the current year. His accomplishment was secured after enduring the strenuous course for 41.18 hours. He appears to be the second individual from Mumbai to accomplish this feat, with Breeze Sharma achieving it a few years ago.Reflecting on his journey, Mirza revealed, "As the finish line came into sight, I was overcome with emotion. A mere 200 meters away from the finish line, my team raised the Indian flag, serving as a motivating force. Interestingly, my inability to join the Army had an overwhelming impact on me, and I found myself shedding tears of sentiment." Mirza's aspirations to join the Indian Army had been thwarted 12 years ago due to a shortfall of a single centimeter in his height.Mirza, who had been diligently preparing for the ultramarathon since March, shared, "Upon reaching Death Valley, you swiftly realize that no amount of training can entirely prepare you for this ordeal." He elaborated, "The heat was incredibly parched, and even when the temperature cooled during the night, it remained strikingly high, hovering above 40 degrees Celsius. It felt akin to being enveloped within an unrelenting sauna, both day and night."
