In a major development in Pakistan Politics, Hafiz Saeed, a UN-designated terrorist and the mastermind of the Mumbai terror attack will indirectly take part in the Pakistan general elections in February next year. Pakistan Markazi Muslim League, a party backed by Saeed, has fielded candidates for every national and provincial assembly constituency. Moreover, Hafiz’s son Talha Saeed is also in the run for National Assembly’s constituency NA-127, Lahore. Earlier in the 2018 General Elections, PMML had taken part as Milli Muslim League, the political face of the banned Jamaat-ud-Dawa. However, the party failed to show any promising results from any constituency. The PMML came into the limelight after the Milli League was banned by the government. Notably, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Saeed has been in jail since 2019 for multiple terror charges. Hafiz was also the kingpin of the horrifying 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attack that killed 166 people, including six US citizens.
