BJP Workers Claim Names Missing in Electoral Roll Revision, Raise Allegations of Conspiracy
Baranagar, a politically significant assembly constituency in North 24 Parganas, is at the center of a controversy over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. BJP workers, including Abhishek Kumar Gupta, allege that their names have been deleted despite submitting all required documents. Senior BJP leader Rajiv Mishra claims that Block Level Officers involved in the process are sympathetic to the ruling party and accuses the state government of helping suspected infiltrators obtain documents. With a high-profile contest underway between TMC MLA Sayantika Banerjee and BJP’s Sajal Ghosh, the SIR exercise has become a contentious issue, with workers submitting Form 6 and awaiting resolution. Mishra describes the process as “at least 80% a failure” and says only under President’s Rule could it be conducted effectively. The impact of SIR on the polls will only be clear after results are declared.
