Chip major Qualcomm has launched three new chipsets-- Snapdragon 720G, 662 and 460 in India. These are the first 4G enabled processors for Android phones that will support India’s very own navigation system called Navigation with Indian Constellation or NavIC. Chinese smartphone brands Xiaomi and Realme have already confirmed that they will be launching phones that will support NavIC soon. NavIC has been developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) as the Indian version of GPS. NavIC only focuses on India and ISRO considers it to be more accurate than GPS with position accuracy of just 5 metres. While GPS is very popular among smartphone users, what most people do not know is that GPS is not the only satellite navigation system. Russia, for example uses its own GLONASS while the European Union and China have Galileo and BDS respectively. For India, it’s NavIC now.
