What Training 5 Lakh Indian Army Personnel In Drone Operations Means For Future Wars
The Indian Army plans to train around five lakh personnel in drone operations over the next five years as part of a major military transformation. Around 50,000 officers and soldiers have already been trained in operating Remotely Piloted Aerial Systems (RPAS), while a dedicated drone warfare framework has been introduced across 19 military training establishments. The initiative follows lessons drawn from recent conflicts and Operation Sindoor, where drones and precision-strike systems played a significant role. With Ashni drone platoons now deployed across 380 infantry battalions and drone training becoming mandatory for military aviators, the Army is moving towards a future where drone operations become a core soldiering skill.
