Traditional Kashmiri dish 'Harissa' gaining popularity again: Mouth-watering 400-year-old cuisine will soothe your soul

Harissa, a 400 years old traditional winter cuisine of Kashmir. It's a mutton recipe, made with Indian spices and takes around 12 hours to cook and has to be kept overnight before consumption. It is served best with Kashmiri bread, Kander Czout. The dish has become a Centre of attraction for many and is known as winter delicacy of Kashmir.An 85 years old Mr. Abdul Rehman Khaksar and his family have been in business for last 200 hundred years, the oldest sellers of Harissa in the valley. The delicacy was imported from Central Asia during Mughal era, when 400 hundred years ago, Baba Kareem-e-Harissa, a Sufi saint visited Kashmir and started this tradition, it was embraced by Kashmiris and became a popular delicacy in Kashmir.Not only this but many new brands are opening up to promote the dish, one amongst which is 'Chila-e-Kalaan' known for free delivery and it's quality, owned by a young celebrity anchor Mr. Jibran Dar. On one side where there was a fear in Harissa sellers to be forgotten, on the either side there are many new brands opening up, dedicated to sell Harissa. Business of selling Harissa online is now a successful entrepreneurship in the valley
