Sri Lanka Navy Arrests 6 Indian Fishermen, TN CM Vijay Writes To Jaishankar Seeking Their Release
C. Joseph Vijay, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has written a D.O. letter to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar seeking urgent diplomatic intervention for the release of Tamil Nadu fishermen detained by the Sri Lankan Navy. The appeal follows the arrest of six fishermen from Rameswaram after their country boat was seized for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). The fishermen, identified as Alex, Antony, Santhana Alexia, Britto, Albert, and Sagaya Selvasanu, were apprehended near the Mannar sea region and taken to Thikkivitta harbour. Authorities in Sri Lanka later handed them over to fisheries officials in Jaffna, with legal proceedings underway. The Tamil Nadu government has urged the Centre to ensure their safe repatriation and secure the release of their seized fishing boat.
