Six states lead India's Covid-19 surge as Centre readies for Phase-2 of vaccination drive

The union health ministry has said that six states – Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat – are behind the current Covid surge in India and account for almost 86% of the new cases. Daily cases climbed to a 30-day high of 16,752 on Sunday. India is currently gearing up for the second phase of its vaccination drive, which will cover people over the age of 60 and those above 45 with comorbid conditions.
