West Bengal Polls Turn Violent: BJP Alleges Attacks By ‘TMC Goons’, TMC Denies Allegations
Violence marked the opening phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, with several incidents reported across districts. In Kumarganj, BJP candidate Subhendu Sarkar alleged he was assaulted by a mob after protesting obstruction of polling agents, blaming supporters of the Trinamool Congress. He sustained injuries and was hospitalised, while his vehicle was vandalised. In a separate incident, Agnimitra Paul reported her car was attacked in Asansol South. Additionally, a BJP polling agent in Birbhum was seriously injured in an alleged assault. The BJP has accused authorities of failing to ensure adequate security during voting.
