Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commissioned ICGS Samudra Pratap, the Indian Coast Guard’s first indigenously built Pollution Control Vessel, in Goa, enhancing India’s maritime security and pollution response capabilities. He noted that more than 60% of the ship’s materials are indigenous, calling it a key step towards a self-reliant India under the Make in India initiative. Singh highlighted the Coast Guard’s multifaceted role, including pollution control, coastal cleanliness, search and rescue, and maritime law enforcement. Measuring 115 meters with a displacement of 4,170 tonnes and a top speed of 22 knots, Samudra Pratap is the largest ship in the fleet. The Defence Minister added that the Coast Guard has instilled such strength that any threat to India’s maritime borders will face a firm response.
