Preparations in full swing for Chithirai car festival at Meenakshi Amman Temple
Preparations for the car festival of Chithirai festival are in full swing at Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai. The decoration work of the temple chariot is underway in Madurai ahead of the car festival. Earlier, the glass chandeliers of the large chariot of the Goddess Meenakshi and the small chariot of the Lord Sokkanathar Priyavidai were removed from the Keelamasi Road. All the dust that had accumulated for over three years was cleaned with air spray. The car festival will be held on May 3. The 13-day festival at the Meenakshi Amman temple has several major events, including the 'Pattabhishekam' (Meenakshi goddess coronation) on April 30, followed by the 'Thirukalyanam' (heavenly wedding) on May 2 and the famous Chitra temple Chariot Festival on 3rd May. The festival concludes on May 4 with the Theerthavari at the Meenakshi Amman temple. As part of the Chithirai festival, Kallaghar's descent into the Vaigai River will take place on May 5.
