As India surpassed China to become most populous country in the world, Nationalist Congress Party leader Ajit Pawar while addressing a public gathering in Maharashtra’s Baramati on April 23 said that, he had demanded Centre to make a rule check birth rate in the country. He opined that for people who are having more than two children should not be eligible for Member of Parliament and Member of Legislative Assembly candidature.He said, “People of Baramati know that I talk very straight and clearly and that is why I say that people who give birth to more than two children should not be given any facilities from government. When Vilasrao Deshmukh was the chief minister, we had taken a decision in which those who had more than two children will not be given candidature or remain ineligible for local bodies like Gram Panchayat and Zilla Parishad elections.”“Later people raised questions and asked us to bring this rule for MLA and MPs, however, I informed that this matter is not in the hands of the state government, it is in the hands of the Centre. I demand that the central government should make this rule. It will make an awareness among the people. Now see as a result, many people who wished for candidature stopped at two only,” he added.
