Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) is witnessing its biggest uprising in decades, with thousands of people pouring onto the streets demanding structural reforms, justice, and dignity. The Awami Action Committee (AAC) has called a sweeping shutdown and wheel-jam strike, paralysing daily life across the region. Protesters are demanding abolition of 12 refugee seats in the PoK Assembly, fairer electricity tariffs tied to the Mangla Dam project, and long-delayed reforms denied for 70 years. Internet has been cut, security forces deployed in large numbers, and heavily armed convoys rolled into towns to crush dissent. Yet, the movement only grows stronger as lawyers, civil groups, and citizens unite behind AAC’s 38-point charter. Shaukat Nawaz Mir, the AAC leader, thundered: “Enough is enough. Either deliver rights or face the wrath of the people.” With Islamabad resorting to brute force, and dialogue collapsing after 13 hours of inconclusive talks, observers warn of a new separatist storm brewing in PoK, one that could rival Balochistan.
