A major shift in the global balance of power is underway, according to India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Speaking at the Raisina Dialogue 2026, Jaishankar said no country today holds overall global hegemony. He explained that the expectation that the post-World War II or post-Cold War order could remain fixed indefinitely was unrealistic. Over the decades, power has gradually spread across multiple regions, economies and technological sectors. Jaishankar also highlighted two major drivers shaping the future global order: technology and demographics. According to him, modern power is no longer measured solely by GDP or military strength. Instead, different countries are gaining influence in different domains, from innovation and technology to demographics and regional capabilities. His remarks reflect a growing recognition that the international system is becoming more distributed, with several powers shaping the direction of global politics.
