The Supreme Court of India has delivered a sharp verdict on gender bias in the armed forces, stating that women officers were unfairly denied Permanent Commission due to systemic discrimination. Highlighting flawed evaluation practices and arbitrary limits, the bench led by Surya Kant said merit cannot be judged through a biased lens. Using Article 142, the court granted relief to affected officers, ensuring pension and career benefits. The ruling also mandates a review of assessment systems to remove structural bias.
