This year the Nobel Peace Prize was given out to 2 deserving candidates who have worked tirelessly in their field. Nadia Murad, the voice and face of women who have survived the Islamic State’s sexual violence, and Dr. Denis Mukwege, a gynecologist who has treated thousands of women who have undergone sexual violence were the recipients of the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize for 2018. According to Berit Reiss-Andersen, chairwoman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, they wanted to send out a message that women were being used as weapons of war and that perpetrators had to be held responsible. The 2 recipients have worked tirelessly to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war.
