The Machine Readable Passport (MRP) has been replaced with a new generation Electronic passport by the Nepal Government. The first copy of the passport was handed over to 102-year-old Historian as conferred with title “YugPurush” man of the era, Dr. Satya Mohan Joshi. Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka presented the first ever copy of the new Electronic Passport to Dr. Joshi as it plans to displace the earlier ones. Addressing the ceremony, Foreign Minister Khadka claimed lately issued passport of having improved security features. The lately formed administration under Sher Bahadur Deuba has handed over the contract to print the new ones to French firm IDEMIA. The replacement of earlier 2010 issued Machine Readable Passports comes as per the guidelines of the International Civil Aviation Organization. Government officials claims it to have more security and safety measures than earlier issued ones.
