Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking in Darrang, Assam, criticised the Congress party over their remarks regarding the Bharat Ratna awarded to the late Bhupen Hazarika. Modi said he was deeply hurt after watching a video of the Congress President referring to the award as being given to “dancers and singers.” He added that while he can endure personal criticism, he cannot tolerate insults aimed at others. Modi highlighted Bhupen Hazarika’s immense contribution to Indian music and culture and described him as the pride of Assam. He also recalled the unhealed wounds of the North East following the 1962 war with China, emphasising the importance of honouring national icons.
