External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted the growing importance of India’s engagement with Europe, stating that the relationship holds “tremendous unrealised potential” and offers many new areas for cooperation. Addressing the media after the India–Weimar format meeting with the foreign ministers of France, Germany and Poland, he said the discussions focused on India–EU relations, the Indo-Pacific and the Ukraine conflict. Jaishankar noted that as global dynamics remain in flux, regular dialogue and smaller group formats help support deeper and more structured cooperation with European partners. In Paris, Jaishankar also held talks with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, where he described India–France cooperation as crucial for stabilising global politics. The meeting focused on preparations for President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to India next month for the AI Summit. Emphasising France’s position as India’s oldest strategic partner in Europe, Jaishankar said sustained consultations and effective use of bilateral mechanisms would help advance the wide-ranging agenda and implement the Horizon 2047 roadmap in an increasingly multipolar world.
