Malnutrition among mothers and infants is a major problem in Maharashtra's Melghat, a tribal-dominated region. So much so that new mothers are often unable to breastfeed their newborn babies, as they are malnourished themselves. Sarla Tote came up with a unique solution to this challenge. Sarla is the brand ambassador of the Akola District Women's Hospital's milk bank. The Yashoda Maternal Milk Bank plays an important role in protecting the health of newborns, by allowing lactating mothers to donate their milk that helps new mothers and newborns. The milk bank was established on August 14, 2021. In the first year, 77 litres of milk was donated, while 1,549 mothers have donated 177 litres of milk so far this year.
