Maran brothers to face trial in BSNL exchange case, plea dismissed

Former Union telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran’s plea for quashing the decades-old BSNL telephone exchange trial against him was dismissed by the Supreme Court on Monday. He, along with his brother Kalanidhi Maran, has been asked to face proceedings in the lower court. Justice Ranjan Gogoi headed the bench that refused to entertain Maran’s plea. Dayanidhi Maran faces charges of misusing his official position and installing private telephone exchanges at his residences in Chennai, which he used for business transactions involving Sun network- owned by brother Kalanidhi.
