Days after incessant rains wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh, causing devastation on a massive scale, Manali-Leh National Highway has been restored for traffic by Border Roads Organization (BRO). Opening of the road facilitated the movement of 1500 heavy vehicles that were stranded. These vehicles are important for winter stocking of various commodities for armed forces and locals of Ladakh. On July 16, locals were seen joining restoration works in flash flood-ravaged Manali. Floods triggered by torrential rains in the hill state claimed over 100 lives in Himachal Pradesh due to various reasons. The estimated cost of the damage to public infrastructure in the state has been pegged over Rs 3738.28 crore, according to the Department of Revenue of the Himachal government. There have been 53 incidents of landslides in the state besides 35 incidents of flash floods, according to officials.
