Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), a US-based Khalistani group, has threatened to “siege” the Indian Consulate in Vancouver this Thursday and urged Indo-Canadians to avoid the consulate that day. SFJ released a poster showing Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Patnaik with a target on his face. The group accuses Indian consulates of spying and running surveillance on Khalistan referendum supporters in Canada. SFJ says the RCMP provided witness protection to its leader Inderjeet Singh Gosal after Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s death. In 2023, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau acknowledged an investigation into Indian agents’ involvement in Nijjar’s killing. Recently, Canada flagged financial support to extremist Khalistani groups like Babbar Khalsa and International SYF, both listed as terrorist organizations under Canadian law. The Indian Consulate and Ministry of External Affairs have yet to comment.
