Leader of Opposition in Kerala VD Satheeshan on September 16 alleged that the Kerala government has no health data regarding the Nipah outbreak in Kerala. He also alleged that there is no treatment protocol in the state to handle the current situation. Talking to ANI, VD Satheeshan said, “I think the government of Kerala holds no health data. Health data is more important to address the situation. Now the disease is coming again in Kozhikode, the same district. There is no treatment protocol.” “There are virology institutes in Kerala and they are all competent to finalise whether it is Nipah or not. Unfortunately, Health Minister Veena George replied in the Assembly that only the Pune Virology Institute can confirm the disease. I’ve gone through the provisions of the ICHR guidelines. But it doesn’t say the Nipah should be confirmed by the Pune Virology Institute. It can be confirmed by the Virology Institutes in Kerala and there should be a new protocol. We are providing all our support to the government to address the situation. We don’t want to make it political,” he further said.
