Following an Uttarakhand cabinet meeting, chief secretary SS Sandhu said on Friday that "eight institutes are studying the reasons behind land subsidence in Joshimath and the role of NTPC's Tapovan-Vishnugad project is included in their probe." Sandhu added: "We will act on the basis of the report. All work at the NTPC tunnel is closed till further orders." The cabinet announced a slew of measures for the affected families, including a "daily food allowance and a six-month waiver on power and water bills starting November 2022".
