Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind files petition in the Supreme Court opposing same-sex marriages

The 104-year old organisation of Muslim scholars in India -- the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has filed a petition in the Supreme Court opposing same-sex marriages. The Centre has also opposed in the Supreme Court a batch of pleas seeking legal validation of same-sex marriage, saying it would cause complete havoc with the delicate balance of personal laws and accepted societal values. Several other religious groups have also opposed it on the ground that the institution of marriage can be only between opposite sexes.
