India's indigenous moon mission, Chandrayaan-2, has been launched by ISRO today at 2:43 pm. The launch took place at Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district. The event, which was initially scheduled to take place on July 15, was rescheduled to July 22 due to a technical snag. The launch was called off 56 minutes, 24 seconds before lift-off following a technical issue in its most powerful rocket GSLV-Mk-III, which is also known as 'Baahubali'. The ISRO subsequently tweeted, "Chandrayaan-2 launch, which was called off due to a technical snag on July 15, 2019, but now it is finally launched at 2:43 pm IST on Monday, July 22, 2019. The Chandrayaan-2 is considered to be the most complex mission ever as it will attempt to soft land at a predetermined site close to the lunar South Pole. The attempt to land on the moon with take place on September 6. The cost of the Chandrayaan-2 mission is estimated to be Rs 978 crore.
