Google is celebrating the 107th birth anniversary of famous urdu writer Ismat Chugtai. Ismat Chugtai was the first female Urdu writer who wrote about feminism challenging the societal norms of her time.She wrote famous short stories Lihaf(The Quilt) and Gainda (Marigold). In her writings she exposed the exploitation faced by Muslim women in families. Google has created a doodle to pay tribute to her. Ismat Chugtai was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government in 1976. She is a contemporary to writers like Sadat Hasan Manto, another gem of Urdu fiction writing.Ismat Chugtai is still relevant because of her writing as not much has changed in the lives of Muslim females since her time. Her writings have been put on stage through Dramas and Kissagois(storytelling).
