India's first indigenous nuclear power plant, the Kakrapar Atomic Power Project (KAPP), is operational in Gujarat's Surat district. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed joy during its launch on September 1 and commended the scientists and engineers in a social media post. Sunil Kumar Roy, the Site Director, explained that they utilize Uranium U35 for a fission reaction to generate electricity, adding nuclear energy to the diverse array of energy sources like coal, oil, wind, solar, and hydro.
