Negotiations for a free trade agreement between India and Canada have hit a roadblock shortly after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's visit to India for the G20 Leaders' Summit. According to sources speaking to ANI, the pause in negotiations is attributed to "certain political developments" in Canada. It is expected that discussions will resume once these issues are resolved between the two governments.Previously, there were indications that both nations could potentially reach an interim trade agreement by the year's end. However, the increasing presence of pro-Khalistan elements engaging in anti-India activities in Canada has cast a shadow over bilateral relations.During the G20 Leaders' Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a firm stance on the Khalistan issue in discussions with his Canadian counterpart. He expressed "serious concerns" regarding ongoing "anti-India activities" perpetrated by extremist groups within Canada.
