India is among 60 economies now facing a new trade investigation launched by the United States. The probe, announced by US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, will examine whether countries are taking sufficient action to block imports made using forced labour. Along with India, the list includes major economies such as China, Russia and Bangladesh. The investigation falls under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, a law used by Washington to address trade practices that may harm American businesses. The move comes as global supply chains face increased scrutiny and as the administration of Donald Trump looks for new ways to enforce trade rules after tariff disputes reached the US Supreme Court. The investigation will include public hearings and could potentially result in trade measures.
