Hike VAT on cigarettes: Harsh Vardhan

Cigarettes may soon burn a big hole in smokers' pockets. Days after the health ministry wrote to the finance ministry recommending a steep tax hike to increase the price of cigarettes to at least Rs 3.50 a stick, it has asked the states and union territories to increase VAT on them.
