Govt Clears 250 MW Solar Power Project With BESS On Defence Land In Uttar Pradesh
The Ministry of Defence has approved the establishment of a 250 MW Solar Power Project with an integrated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh. The project will be developed on nearly 850 acres of vacant defence land in the former cantonment area.Approved by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the initiative is the first large-scale solar power project with battery storage support to be set up on defence land. The project aims to promote renewable energy generation while making productive use of unused defence assets. The integrated BESS will help store surplus solar energy and ensure a stable power supply during periods of low generation, strengthening energy reliability and supporting India's clean energy transition goals.Officials say the project marks a significant step towards sustainable infrastructure development, energy security, and efficient utilisation of public land resources.
