Governor RN Ravi Dissolves West Bengal Assembly After Mamata Banerjee Refuses To Resign
A notification has been issued dissolving the West Bengal Legislative Assembly with effect from May 7, 2026, under Article 174(2)(b) of the Constitution, following directions from Governor R.N. Ravi. The order, issued by Chief Secretary Dushyant Nariala, came after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s refusal to resign despite the BJP’s sweeping electoral victory. Earlier, Banerjee had called the poll outcome “looted” and alleged large-scale manipulation during counting, signalling a legal and political fight. At a meeting with newly elected TMC MLAs at her Kalighat residence, she reportedly described the party’s stance as a symbolic protest against alleged election irregularities and indicated plans to approach the Supreme Court.
