Even as the Modi government has decided to repeal the three contentious farm sector laws, the Opposition as well as many agri sector experts say the decision was taken with an eye on the upcoming state elections. Agri-policy analyst Indra Shekhar Singh says the repeal of the farm sector laws is a major victory for the farmers. Suman Sahai, scientist and chairperson of Gene Campaign, says the government could have been much more gracious by taking the farmers on board before announcing the decision.
