Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has voiced concern over the impact of Donald Trump’s tariff policy on India’s export-driven sectors. He warned that industries like garments, leather, seafood, and gems & jewellery are facing large-scale order cancellations. Tharoor highlighted reports of nearly 1.5 lakh jewellery workers losing jobs in Surat, calling the situation alarming. Stressing that tariffs have placed India at a disadvantage against competitors, he urged a rollback of the 25% duty to prevent deeper economic distress.
