The Reserve Bank of India has said that 99.3% of banned notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denomination were deposited back into the system. Opposition is likely to target the Modi government afresh as this means that demonetisation failed to achieve one of its objective of eliminating a significant portion of black money. The govt too had claimed that eliminating unaccounted money kept in form of currency notes was one of the key objectives of demonetisation.
