Colin O'Brady, first American, to solo across Antarctica unaided
Colin O'Brady, of Portland, became the first person to traverse Antarctica alone without any assistance. He finished the bone-chilling while his family and friends tracked his progress in real time online. It took him 54 days to complete the 930-mile (1,500-kilometer) journey. The 33-year-old documented his nearly entirely uphill journey and share it on his Instagram account. British explorer Henry Worsley in 2016 died while attempting an unassisted solo trip across Antarctica.
