Cauvery delta protection movement calls for bandh over water release dispute

The Cauvery Delta Protection Movement has initiated a strike, or 'bandh,' as a protest against the Karnataka government's alleged insufficiency in providing water for irrigation. The Cauvery Water Management Authority had previously mandated Karnataka to release 5,000 cusecs of Cauvery Water until September 26. While Karnataka has initiated water release, it remains in discussions with the authority, advocating for a reduction in the required water amount. Karnataka argues that certain parts of the state are grappling with severe drought conditions.
