On September 29, in Bengaluru, there was a protest organized by pro-Kannada organizations regarding the long-standing Cauvery water dispute. Subsequently, the Bengaluru Police detained members of these pro-Kannada organizations who were participating in the protest. This issue has been a source of controversy between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for many decades, revolving around the allocation of water from the Cauvery river, which serves as a crucial source of irrigation and drinking water for millions of people in the region. To address these disputes, the Indian government established the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) on June 2, 1990, to resolve water-sharing conflicts among Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Puducherry.
