Amit Shah Targets Congress, Backs Women’s Quota And Delimitation Push
Union Home Minister Amit Shah intensified the political debate on delimitation, accusing the Congress of deliberately freezing the process during the Emergency to retain power. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Shah referred to the 1976 42nd Amendment, stating that it halted delimitation despite earlier expansion of seats, thereby denying citizens fair representation. He alleged that the Congress not only made this decision historically but continues to resist delimitation efforts even today. The remarks sparked a fresh confrontation between the ruling BJP and the Opposition, with the issue of population-based seat distribution and electoral fairness once again taking centre stage in Parliament.
