50,648 displaced people take shelter in around 349 relief camps
Over 50,648 people have been displaced during the violence in Manipur. They have been lodged in around 349 relief camps in the state owing to the ongoing crisis. ANI visited the people who took shelter at Ideal Girls' College in Imphal, Manipur on June 12. The relief camp has been sheltering 734 displaced people out of 10,000 displaced from Moreh Commercial town of Tengnoupal District.They took shelter in the college after their houses, shops were burnt by armed Kuki militants. Many of the displaced persons have been suffering due to the banned internet as they could not receive or send money to their families. Notably, violence erupted in the state on May 3 during a rally organised by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) to protest against the demand for the inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.
