The superfast Vande Bharat was recently flagged off from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus -- the same place from where the first train in Asia with 14 carriages had departed. “It is a perfect confluence of heritage and development. From the first train on April 16,1853 to the most modern train of India, we have completed 170 glorious years of India Railways on Sunday," said Central Railway chief spokesperson Shivaji Sutar. On Sunday, rail fans and regular commuters celebrated the tenth anniversary of the extension of suburban train services from Virar to Dahanu Road station on Western Railway. In 1853, the first train was flagged off from Boribunder (the place where CSMT presently stands) on that day. It was operated by three locomotives, named Sahib, Sultan and Sindh, and had 14 carriages.
