Gotabaya is considering using a navy patrol craft to flee the island nation after Colombo airport immigration staff foiled his attempts to fly out of the country. The president, who has not been seen in public since Friday, has reportedly signed his resignation letter and the public announcement is expected on Wednesday. Gotabaya is being blamed for the unprecedented economic crisis in Sri Lanka. The 73-year-old leader had fled his official residence last Saturday just before tens of thousands of protesters overran it.
